Just a few kilometers from Cape Town’s city centre lies Goodwood, a residential area between the northern and southern suburbs.
Interestingly the suburb was named after the famous British racetrack - the area was going to be established as a racing centre and while a course was actually constructed the idea was abandoned after only one meeting. The JG Meiring High School was built on the site of the racetrack.
Goodwood includes Tygerdal, Vrizjee, Goodwood Park, Goodwood West and Glenwood. Since the opening of the now very popular Grand West Casino, Goodwood has also seen an increase in popularity.
