Surrounded on all sides by the waters of the tidal Knysna estuary, which is ringed by a chain of hills, Leisure Isle is linked to the mainland by a narrow causeway. The lifestyle of the Island has always been true to its name, with something for the young, the old and everyone in between. It is a perfect place to enjoy building sandcastles, swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, kite-boarding and fishing, not to mention walking, jogging, and cycling. Tennis courts, bowling greens and a range of indoor activities add to the choices. With a 40 kph speed limit and speed humps, Leisure Isle’s streets and lanes are people and pet friendly. In fact, Leisure Isle is regarded by its inhabitants almost as a pedestrian precinct and, while there is obviously some traffic, it is a place where all can feel safe to walk and cycle.
