Gardens property guide

Gardens at a glance

Gardens, which lies between Tamboerskloof and Oranjezicht, is one of the oldest and most established areas in the city and thus one of the more popular suburbs to buy property in.

For residents of this beautiful suburb, the hustle and bustle of the city are minutes away but you feel worlds away from it. Many of the homes have been subdivided and rezoned for business purposes but for those that remain residential homes the air colonial charm is a prominent feature.

Homes feature large rooms, high ceilings, and wooden floors and for the most part, undergone renovations to bring them into the modern age without losing the charm.

Virtually synonymous with the suburb is the Company Gardens, the oldest garden in South Africa, which lies just down Government Walk. Whilst initially used as a vegetable garden after Jan van Riebeeck came ashore in 1652, the garden is now one of the most botanically interesting city parks in the country.

Because the suburb lies in close proximity to the city centre, residents can enjoy all the vibrant and trendy offerings on display on the famed Long Street. The suburb is also perfectly positioned to access the world-renowned beaches.
