Mokopane, once known as Potgietersrus and still called Potties by residents, lies about two hours northeast of Pretoria in the heart of the Waterberg.

Mokopane functions as a support town for the many farming activities in the area offering all the necessary amenities for the farmers and those who work on the farms.

It is not just agricultural activities either, today farms surrounding the town have turned their attention to game farming and subsequently, Potties has become a stop-over for tourists on their way to one of the lodges in the area,

Attractions include the annual Kierieklapper festival, the Arend Dieperink Museum, the Doorndraaidam Nature Reserve, the Mokopane Biodiversity Conservation Centre, Big Five game viewing and San rock paintings.
