Krugersdorp at a glance

Krugersdorp has often been described as the treasure chest of the West with its wide array of residential and commercial properties available while being surrounded by some of the richest archeological areas in South Africa.

This town, the industrial hub of Western Gauteng with its mild climate, interesting topography and rich cultural and historical background, was founded in 1887 by MW Pretorius when gold was discovered on his farm Paardekraal. On 1 November 1994, the Krugersdorp Transitional Local Council was promulgated and incorporates Kagiso, Munsieville, Azaadville, and Muldersdrift. The greater Krugersdorp, now officially known as the Krugersdorp Local Council, has approximately 350 000 residents.

As for cultural events, the Krugersdorp Centenary Hall often hosts artists of outstanding quality.
