Named after the abundant white sandstone, Witbank lies in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa and the growth of the town sprang from the lucrative mining industry in the area.
Witbank developed into a town in 1903 and today it has developed into a rather large and bustling city where dairy, potatoes, maize, sheep and sweet potatoes are farmed. Interestingly, Winston Churchill hid in a colliery near Witbank during the Second Boer War after his escape from Pretoria.
