Ballito at a glance

Nestled between the lush rolling hills of KwaZulu-Natal and the warm waves of the Indian Ocean, lies Ballito - the perfect location for a year-round summer atmosphere. The golden beaches stretching over the coast entices visitors and residents alike to enjoy days spent soaking up the sun and surf, here surfers and fishermen share the ocean’s warm water on a daily basis, while the shops and restaurants buzz with activity. From its holiday town beginnings, Ballito has evolved into a popular choice for young families due to its leafy suburbs and while it is close to Durban, it is much quieter. In recent years, there has been a population boom in Ballito. Various safe, gated estates have been built in and around the town on land that was previously used as sugar cane farms. Many new hotels and resorts have opened, drawing even more tourists into this picturesque part of the KwaZulu-Natal coast. Plans are currently on the table for new schools to be constructed, a new town centre, a taxi rank, and a larger clinic. The main entrance to Ballito from the N2 highway is currently being upgraded, with the construction of a spaghetti junction to ease the traffic, the widening of the road to four lanes in Ballito Drive, and proper pedestrian walkways. It is easy to see why the slogan “Buy, Build & Play at Ballito Bay, The Caribbean of the North Coast” was used when it was first advertised to property investors. After a second, very welcome, drop in the interest rate and inflation’s sharp upward trajectory seemingly curbed, investor sentiment is cautiously optimistic, and South Africans are once again looking to invest rather than divest with many turning to real estate which is traditionally regarded as one of the most stable investment options.
